"CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT HILLSDALE
"Adam Barnes died at his home in Hillsdale Thursday night at the age of 77 years. The funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment was at the Helt's Prairie Cemetery.

"Mr. Barnes was a well known man about Hillsdale. He was born at Harveysburg, Fountain county, Feb. 11, 1840. His parents were Charles L. and Susan Barnes. In 1866 he married Amanda Boyd, at Harveysburg. They had two children, Charles and Edward. Charles is still living. Mrs. Barnes died in 1867 (1870).

"On the Fourth of July, 1875 (1871), Mr. Barnes remarried to Minerva Toppas. Seven children were born, of whom two died. Those living are Oscar, Laurence, Leroy, Mrs. Fannie Elwell and Miss Ruby Alice. Mr. Barnes has four sisters living, Mrs. Nettie Conway, Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Grumley and Mrs. Lacey, and thirteen grandchildren.

"When the Civil War broke out, Mr. Barnes enlisted in the 31st Regiment, Indiana volunteer infantry, at Harveysburg. He served until September 15, 1864."
