RUSSELL BLACK

Russell Black, 89, of Shelburn, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on January 10, 1925 in Dugger, Indiana the son of Hosea and Emma (Houser) Black. Russell was in the ministry for over 60 years. He was a member of the Coalmont Church of God. He pastored in Indiana, Ohio, North Dakota and Pennsylvania. Russell also served on the state council of the Church of God in Indiana for many years. He also served as Alumni Secretary of Lee College in Cleveland, Indiana in the sixties.

His main concern in life was his family and for the member of his churches. He was truly a man of God. By his nieces he was often called The Great Russell Black, although he wouldn't hear of it, but all who knew him knew it was so!(Listed in the obituary at his nieces wish)

Russell is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Janice Elaine Black, wife Lela M. Black on April 19, 2012 and four brothers; Paul, Dick, Bob and Leon Black.

Survivors include daughter Twila Valentine of Shelburn, Indiana, grandson John R. (Angel) Valentine whom he helped raise and was like a son to him, three great-granddaughters; Stephanie, Christina, and Karina Valentine and two sisters; Lucille Wise of Jasonville, Indiana and Lera McClure of Sullivan. Russell is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 15, 2014 at Banks and Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, Indiana with Bro. J.F. Rehmel officiating. Interment will follow in Little Flock Cemetery in Shelburn, Indiana with a Military graveside service by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera Legion Posts and Sullivan county VFW Post. Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 14, 2014 and 9:00 AM until the service on Friday, August 15, 2014.
