Cummings Byam, Mae was born Dec. 29,
1903 in Sioux Rapids. She was raised in
Sioux Rapids and graduated from Sioux
Rapids High School in 1921. She attended
Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar
Falls and later taught school.
She was married to Albert Len Davis
Nov. 29, 1923 in Spencer and the couple
farmed in Buena Vista County until 1931.
They moved to Storm Lake in 1933 and
she was a homemaker and self-employed
seamstress. She retired in 1984 and
moved to Grinnell. While in Storm Lake,
she was a member of First Baptist Church
and Women's Fellowship, and was a 50-
year memberbf the Eastern Star. In Grinnell
she was a member of Grinnell Christian
Church, where she was active with
class fellowships and also a member of
the Searchlight Club. She had been a resident
of St. Francis Manor in Grinnell
since October of 1994.
Mae enjoyed cooking and baking and
was famous for her caramel corn and
apple dumplings. She also enjoyed
sewing and gardening, and held a passion
for square dancing and playing bridge.
