Charles Friedrick Gerhardt Hedemann b. Sept 25, 1859, to Friedrich and Helena Bruns Hedemann in a log cabin on the Hedemann farm two miles north of Garnavillo. He was the youngest of six children.
Margaret Katharina Mohning b. March 8, 1870, to Herman and Maria Pefmeier on a farm near Garnavillo. There were six other children in the Mohning family: Anna, Lena, Sophia, John, Henry, and Fred.
Charles Hedemann and Margaret Mohning were married Jan. 17, 1887. They made their home on the farm where Charles was born and raised. They had four children. Nelda m. Albert Bludau; Carrie m. Henry Milewsky; Marvin m. Alice Baker; and Robert m. Gladys Curtis.
The family was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Chruch in Garnavillo. In about 1927 Charles and Margaret moved to Garnavillo. They were active in their old age and had a large garden. Charles died Jan. 18, 1953. The day before on Jan. 17, he and Margaret had their 66th wedding anniversary. Margaret died Sept 13, 1958. They are buried in the Garnavillo City Cemetery.
