The Answer
I've often thought, my son, my friend,
If your life on Earth, were to end,
If sudden came the message clear --
That you now were no longer here,
This cross of grief, I could not bear
Then my life too, be ended there
I'd shake my head, shudder, sigh--
To pass these visions quickly by.
But word did come that tragic day,
That sober truth with doubt, dismay,
Why God? Why him? Why Jake? Why mine?
So young, so good, so pure, so kind.
When we saw you lying there,
We reached to touch your golden hair.
Your mother's, sister's my hands shared
With loved ones who were encircled there.
We prayed that God would give you peace--
To take your soul,
To give us strength.
The spirit of Jesus swept through me
Then answered why this had to be,
To shine the light,
To show the way
To God for our eternal stay.
We love you Jake,
