Son of John and Nancy Ann Moore CowdreyJames Moore Cowdrey was born on August 12th, 1795 in Edgefield County, South Carolina, to John Cowdrey. He came from Charleston, South Carolina, to Arkansas about 1825. He moved to Batesville and Fayettville before settling in Marion County in the 1840s. He married Agnes McNubbin on September 26th, 1832 in Izard County, Arkansas. They had eleven children. James was a graduate of Ann Arbor University and a physician by trade. He served the South as a Surgeon in the 14th Arkansas Infantry during the war. He returned home to find his property destroyed and himself financially ruined. Luckily, his sons (who also served) had returned home safely as well. James died on June 5th, 1866. His burial site is unknown.
