Barbara E. Allen, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Calvin Community in Des Moines. Cremation has taken place and she will be buried with her late husband, Edwin at the Oakwood Cemetery in Beloit, Wisconsin. No services are planned.
Barbara Elizabeth Townsley was born October 13, 1916 in Roundup, Montana, the daughter of Arthur Wallace and Eva Martin (Blatchford) Townsley. She received her B.A. in Costume Design from the University of Cincinnati. She was married to Edwin Howe Allen, Jr. Barbara had made her home in Des Moines since 1966. She was a homemaker and a dressmaker. She was a member of Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. Chapter LA and the Society of Mayflower Descendants. She enjoyed sewing and extensive traveling.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, George Malcolm Townsley and Martin Arthur Townsley. She is survived by her son, Charles Allen of Des Moines; two daughters, Elizabeth Allen of Oslo, Norway and Connie Allen of Des Moines; sister, Phyllis Provenzano of Naples, Florida and brother, David Townsley of Dayton, Ohio
