MONTICELLO…. The funeral of George J Harms, 75, Monticello, was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 5, at the Goettsch Funeral home. Interment was in Cedar Memorial mausoleum, Cedar Rapids. Rev. Charles H. Eversman officiated.
Mr. Harms was found hanging in his home Friday morning, March 2. Authorities rule his death was self-inflicted. He was born in Wayne Township, near Monticello, Dec. 3, 1903, the son of Henry Eden and Eliza W. Zimmerman Harms.
He received his early education near the place of his birth and then farmed in Wayne Township. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served during World War II.
He married Eva Lucile Proctor Sept. 28, 1943 at Evansville, Ind. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids for 10 years before moving to Monticello in 1954. Mr. Harms was self-employed as a painter for more than 30 years.
Surviving are his wife, and a brother, Ed of Amber. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
