He was born October 12, 1951 in Wayne County, Ill. to Ivan & Erma (Bailey) Butcher.
He married Mary (Detwiler) Butcher on April 6, 1979 in Elkhart.
Surviving are his wife, Mary, his mother, Erma, daughters, Annette (Barry Hines) Butcher, Bristol, Angela Butcher, Tenn., siblings, Vicki (Phil) Mikulak, Granger, Terry (Mindy) Butcher, Lakeville, his dog, Jack, sister-in-law, Bonnie (Gene) Nicholai, Patty (John) Carpenter, Cindy (Gary) Bontrager, brother-in-law, Ed (Diane) Detwiler, Ken Detwiler, David (Deb) Detwiler and numerous nieces & nephews.
Preceding him in death are his father and parents-in-law, Carlisle "Porky" & Lillian Detwiler.
David was a 1969 graduate of Mishawaka High School and served with the U.S. Army, 101st Screaming Eagles in Viet Nam. He was manager of the Six Span ACE Hardware Store for 18 years.
He was affiliated with the Elkhart County 4-H Fair working with the children, was a member of the Elkhart County Beef Cattle Association, raised Hereford cattle and he enjoyed watching the tractor pulls. He collected farm toys and attended the annual farm toy show in Iowa. David was an avid supporter of Coca Cola, an IU basketball fan and bowled in the Monday Night League at Maple City Bowl
