Francis R. "Bud" Edwards (1921 - 2014)

ARCADE - Francis "Bud" R. Edwards, formerly of Arcade, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2014 at the VA Hospital in Buffalo after a brief illness. He was 92.

Born on Dec. 31, 1921, in Cuba, he was a son of Frank and Grace Field Edwards. On Aug. 4, 1945, he married Barbara Anne Brown, also of Cuba.

Bud worked as a purchasing agent for Motorola in Arcade for 20 years before retiring to Punta Gorda, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-29 gun commander. He was an ex-POW earning a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and numerous other military medals.

Bud was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, the Arcade VFW and the DAV. He was a past commodore of the Cuba Lake Yacht Club.

Surviving besides his wife of 69 years are three daughters, Cherie Washburn of Freedom, Kathy Doster of Arcade and Randi (David) Dressel of Lancaster; a special nephew: Craig (Roddy) Brown of Sherman, Conn.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Setchel of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Erline (Steeg) Johnson of Clarence; a brother-in-law, William Francis of Cuba; a sister-in-law, Ruth Edwards of Petersburg, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Francis and Helen Booth; and a brother, John Edwards.

Interment will be in Cuba Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight Inc., 300 E. Auburn Ave., Springfield, OH 45505. Honor Flight network is a nonprofit organization created to honor American veterans for their sacrifices. They transport heroes to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials.
