E. D. "Wimp" Holcomb, 81, of Big Spring, died Monday, August 18, 2014 in a Lubbock hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 22, 2014 at the 14th and Main Church of Christ with Rick Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Wimp was born November 28, 1932 in Martin County to the late Earl and Gurtha (Lewis) Holcomb.

He married Evelyn Roberts, January 24, 1951 in Knott, Texas.

He graduated from Flower Grove High School and farmed in that area for 54 years.

Wimp sat on the Flower Grove School Board, Martin County Hospital Board, and ASCS.

He served as a county commissioner for Martin County. He also lobbied for federal farm policy improvements in Washington, DC.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Holcomb of Big Spring; one daughter, Beth Phinny and husband, James of Coahoma; four grandchildren, Amanda Dennis and husband, Allen of Frisco, Leslie Ferris and husband, Lance of Colleyville, Vance Smith and wife, Mandie of Glasscock County, and Clayton Smith and wife, Stacie of Ackerly; six great grandchildren, Morgan Phinny, Caty Reid, Colin Dennis, Wyatt Ferris, Caleb Smith, and Josiah Smith; and two brothers, Don Holcomb of Lamesa and Vernon Holcomb of Martin County.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deana Smith; two brothers, Mike Holcomb and Delbert Holcomb.

The family suggests memorials be made to the New Mexico Children's Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130.
