Henry was the third of four children born to George Washington (Pete) Gribble and his wife Julie McClure Gribble. Henry's first wife was Lela Johnson. They had two children: Henry Ben and Hilda May. When Lela died, Henry married Bessie Lou McGuire, daughter of Solomon M. McGuire and Dicyntha (Dicie) Hawkins McGuire on 02 Feb 1909 while sitting in a buggy in front of the original wooden courthouse in Crowell, Foard County, Texas.
Henry and Bessie had seven children: Stella, George S.,James Napoleon, Lewis Leroy, Clyde Dawson (C.D.), Erwin and Jay. They farmed in the Crowell area for many years before moving to Vernon where Henry got a job working at the new Model T Ford dealership.
