Carol Jean French Dec. 17, 1939-Aug. 29, 2010. Carol Jean French, 70, of Chadron, died Aug. 29 at Chadron Community Hospital. A reception in her honor will be held Friday, Sept. 3 at the Country Kitchen in Chadron from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Use west door)
She was born Dec. 17, 1939 in Minatare. She was a graduate of Minatare High School class of 1957 and completed nursing school at West Nebraska General Hospital, graduating in 1960. She graduated from nurse anesthesia school at McKennon Hospital in 1971.
She married George French and to this union two children were born, Brenda Lee and Douglas Dale. She worked as a floor staff nurse, Director of Nursing, Director of Hospice and home health care and surgery and recovery room nurse. Carol worked in many Panhandle area hospitals and in hospitals in Norfolk, Omaha and Sioux Falls S.D.
Carol tried numerous hobbies throughout her life, but she was always happiest taking care of her patients, family and friends, especially her dog "Suzie".
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Gene) von Forell, Crawford; son, Doug (Janelle) French, Papillion; brother Harve (Jeri) Bartel, Scottsbluff; and her beloved dog "Suzie".
She was preceeded in death by her parents, Harry Kane Bartel and Leah (Becker) Bartel and one granddaughter, Rayna von Forell.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Festival of Hope, Cancer Treatment Center, 3911 Ave. B, Suite G 100, Scottsbluff, NE. 69361. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
