Obituary of Melinda Hope Anderson James
Melinda Hope Anderson James, 41, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She fought a courageous battle with cancer for 4 years and was an inspiration to many people during that time. Born on May 19, 1973 in Cleveland, TN, she was the daughter of George R. “Rudy” Anderson and Barbara Dexter Ruth. Melinda was a Veterinarian Technician at Colonial Heights Animal Hospital and was a member of Cassidy United Methodist Church where she served in the church Hand Bell choir. She loved and cherished animals especially her dog, Maggie. Melinda was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter and step-sister. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John and Nell Dexter; paternal grandparents, George and Gaynell Anderson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Zenda and Herbert James and her grand-in-laws, Beulah and Clyde Carico. Surviving her is her husband of 18 years, Clyde Allen “Al” James; daughter, Kaitlin “Katie” Taylor James; mother and step-father, Barbara Dexter Ruth and Bill Ruth; father and step-mother, George R. “Rudy” Anderson and Brenda Anderson; step-sisters, Leta Brewer and husband, Dave, Jamie Cole and Jodie Anderson; step-brother, Matthew Ruth; brothers-in-law, Jeff Carico and wife, Transy, Cliff Carico and wife, Liz, Joe Carico and wife, Barbara, and Tom Carico; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, August 19, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Cassidy United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Hancock and Pastor Robert Burlingham officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in the Garden of Hope at East Lawn Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123, www.cancer.org or to Survive and Thrive Cancer Support Group, Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN 37760, www.facebook.com/surviveandthrive.
