Civil War: John enlisted Sep 1862 with the rank of Private and Mustered out 10 Oct 1862 as a Union soldier in Vermont Company D, Regiment 13th Infantry Muster Regiment and mustered out 21 Jul 1863.
John can be found on page 533 under the Biographical and Historical of Company D book entitled "History of the 13th Regiment Vermont Volunteers" written by Ralph Orson Sturtevant and Carmi Lathrop March.
John's is the first name on a plaque on a monument in Milton, VT honoring hometown civil war soldiers and survivors

John married Catherine Julia "Katie" Austin on 13 May 1867 in Jericho, Vermont. They were the parents of Harry John Andress, Sr. and Cora Lillie Andress Warner .

After Catherine's death in 1913, John married Laura Pruella Burnwyk in 1916 and they were together until his death in 1922.
