Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Monday, May 11, 1970

John William Zander, 21, of 463 South Nicholson died late Saturday evening in Belding of self inflicted gun shot wounds. According to Sheriff O. Gary Newton,

Zander was found by a Belding citizen shortly before noon Sunday under the east end of Memorial bridge on M44. Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot late Saturday evening.

He was born August 14, 1948 in Ionia, the son of Edward W. and Margaret Buxton Zander.

He attended Ionia Schools and had worked at an Ionia bowling alley. He entered the service in October 1969 and was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colo.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Margaret Zander of Ionia; sister, Mrs. James Northrup of Ionia; four brothers, Gerald, William, Michael and Steven all of Ionia; maternal grandfather, Elmer Buxton.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 pm at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
