Joyce Eileen (Marshall) Hachmeister, 84, of Boonville, IN was reunited with loved ones in heaven on the evening of Saturday, August 16, 2014. Born on December 4, 1929, she was the oldest of the seven children of Leo and Beatrice (Austin) Marshall.
Growing up in Evansville, she learned to play the violin in the school orchestra and christened an LST ship, where her father worked in the shipyard. As a teenager, she worked as a roller-skating waitress at the Farmer's Daughter.
Joyce was a long-time member of Baker Chapel United Methodist Church, where she had been active in United Methodist Women, taught Bible School and served as a cook and house mother at the church's house camp at Santa Claus. For several years, she was a leader of The DeGonia Girls 4-H Club.
Many delighted in her cooking skills and were particularly fond of her angel food cake, custard pies, and fruit cobblers. She enjoyed writing poetry for special family occasions, working word puzzles, and crocheting. She was dutiful in working on the family farm and was a bus driver for the Warrick County School Corporation for 12 years.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her high school sweetheart, Paul Edwin Hachmeister, with whom she recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on August 4 and their four children, Karen (Greg) Sureck, David (Brenda) Hachmeister, Gary Hachmeister (fiancée Debbie Brunck), and Kathy (T.Don) Cline. The 11 grandchildren to whom she was devoted, John and Kate Sureck (fiancé' Mike Robison), Cassie (John) Lashley, Cara Hachmeister, Candice (Andy) Carroll, Ann and Jay Hachmeister, Stephanie, Jennifer (fiancé Austin Seiler), and Hoyt Maday, and Travis Cline, and her great-grandchildren, Corben and Colten Lashley, and soon to be third great-grandson.
She is also survived by her siblings, Bettye Bracher, Sue (Jerry) Leonard, Jim (Jolene) Marshall, Patricia (Norman) Christmas, and Michael (Kathy) Marshall, and sister-in-laws, Luella Warthan and Virginia (Gerald) Harris, and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Beatrice Marshall, her brother Billy Ray Marshall, a daughter, Nancy Joyce Hachmeister, and a grandson, Justin David Hachmeister.
Funeral services will be held at 10a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time.
