Mr. Bill J. Bergen, 92, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Friday evening, August 15, 2014, at his home following a period of failing health.

Bill was born June 18, 1922, in Chappell, Nebraska, a son of the late David L. and Mary Ann Bergan.

Having first served in the United States Army Air Corp and later for the Air Force, Bill was a decorated pilot during World War II, earning numerous decorations and citations including the Silver Star, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Five Bronze Stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Air Medal with One Silver Leaf Cluster and One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, just to name a few. Following his military career, he was actively involved in the Ascension Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. His other interests included fishing, hunting and photography.

Bill is survived by his nephew, Bob Priest of Indonesia; his niece, Ann Schneider of Los Angeles, CA; his sister-in-law, Evon Dean of Los Angeles, CA; his good friends, Jim Lynch of Cheyenne, and Bonnie Bachman of Cheyenne; and his caretakers, Cecelia Romero, Olga Crosby and Liz Martinez, all of Cheyenne.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Bergan; and a sister, Patricia Priest.
