BELLEVUE--Herbert E. Berry, 76, retired Assyria farmer, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. R. Wayne (Vera) Bird of Battle Creek, where he had been ill since Sunday. He was born June 6, 1874, in Assyria township, son of Edward E. and Cynthia Jane (Kent) Berry and lived on the same Assyria farm for 42 years. He was married July 3, 1895, to Stella Gibbs of Pennfield township and they retired from farming in 1944 and moved here. Surviving besides the wife and the daughter are three sons, Howard H. Berry of Union City, Edward D. Berry of Lansing and Niles W. Berry of Battle Creek; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Mulvaney of Battle Creek and Mrs. Zeno Lyon of Battle Creek; two brothers, Ernest E. Berry and Mark O. Berry of Assyria; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson and Lehman funeral home, with the Rev. Donald S. Winegar officiating. Burial will be in Hicks cemetery.
