Daniel Lloyd passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2014 in his home in Medford, Oregon. He was 87 years old and had been a resident of Medford since 1983.
Daniel was born on March 11th, 1927 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with his mother and father when he was two. He lived there until he was sixteen and a half when he joined the Canadian Navy during World War II serving until the end of the war in 1945.
In 1947, Daniel married “Molly,” and the two had one son. Sadly, Molly died of illness when their son was 3 years old. In 1953, Daniel married Laura. From 1952 until 1962, Daniel was a firefighter on the Vancouver, BC Fire Department. During that time, he took an international Fire Engineer’s exam and scored the highest mark. In 1962, Daniel moved the family to Dublin, California. He worked at Western Fire Equipment Company for 21 years, where he was General Manager the last 10 years. In 1983, Daniel and Laura moved to Medford, Oregon, and in 1985, at the age of 58, Daniel, with Laura, began a new company called Cascade Fire Equipment Company. The company started out in their garage and was meant to be a small venture, but because of Daniel’s expertise, honesty, and workmanship, and the couple’s commitment, the company grew quickly and in time employed their three sons and three grandsons. Today the company has over 40 full time employees and is the second largest fire-fighting equipment company in the U.S.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Elsie (Taylor) Lloyd from Vancouver, BC, his brother David, his sister Iris Hemrich, his first wife Winifred (“Molly”) Mary Woodliffe, and his second wife Laura Belle Brown who died in 2003. He is survived by his sons David, Stephen, and David, his daughter-in-law Shari, his daughter Deborah and his son-in-law David Dombrowski. He has also left behind eleven loving grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 6 nephews and nieces (from Canada), a sister-in-law in Canada, several cousins all in Canada, and his 101-year-old aunt, Gwyn Garside, also in Canada.
Daniel was loved dearly by all of his family and will be greatly missed. He has left a legacy of honor, duty, and devotion.
