Amy F. Coleman, 101, of Rock City died Friday, May 8, 2009, at Provena St. Joseph Center in Freeport.

Born June 30, 1907, in Stephenson County, she was the daughter of Fred and Cora (McCauley) Kramer. Amy married Eden L. Coleman March 16, 1935, at Davis. He preceded her in death March 7, 1987.

After graduating from Freeport High School in 1924, Amy attended DeKalb Teachers College for one year to earn a Teacher's Certificate. She taught school for 10 years at Center Hill and Eggert schools.

She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in the Dakota and Rock City areas for many years.

Amy was a lifelong member of the Rock Grove United Methodist Church.

Besides playing the piano, she enjoyed gardening, baking cookies, knitting and playing cards and board games with her grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy.

Survivors include three children, her daughter, Carolyn (Melvin) Holste of Rock City and two sons, Jack A. (Ruth) Coleman of Joliet and Dennis (Linda) Coleman of Freeport. There are 10 grandchildren, Jason Coleman, Scott (Kathy) Coleman, Tom (Lydia) Coleman, Bill (Meg) Coleman, Timothy Coleman, Todd (Marybeth) Coleman, Tyler (Julie) Coleman, Brian (Kathy) Holste, Steve (Kim) Holste and Amy McKee. There are 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna in rural Davis. The Rev. Dick Thompson and the Rev. Bruce Janes will co-officiate. Burial will be at Rock Grove Union Cemetery in Rock Grove.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 115 S. West St., Dakota.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.
