ROCK FALLS - Grace Dodge (Grandma Farm), 90, of Rock Falls, died Thursday (May 15, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Grace was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Floyd, the daughter of Jess and Bonnie (Miller) Tanner. She was raised in the Orchard area by her mother Bonnie an step-father, Frank Hoel. A special aunt, Luraine Miller, live with them.

Dancing was Grace's favorite entertainment while growing up. She attended Orchard School until she married Maurice Dodge on April 5, 1930, in Charles City.

Maurice and Grace farmed in Chickasaw County, Rudd and Fredercksburg before moving to the farm southwest of Rock Falls in 1947.

Grace was still living on the farm until the day she fell and was taken to the hospital May 9.

Besides helping with the farming and raising eight children, she enjoyed painting and teaching Artex. Starting in 1978, she began making ornaments for Christmas for each family member.

This past year she made over 110 for her large family, most being her own designs. In the summer planting and caring for her flowers and trees and watching her trumpet vine climb to the top of her evergreen trees was her joy.

She always was taking care of everyone else in her family. Her greatest enjoyment was her large family as she was an only child.
