Age 100, of Claymont, DE passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 3, 2016.Born in Douglas, Kansas, Mae was the daughter of the late Ora Duncan Phillips and Leon Phillips. Mae grew up on the family farm outside of Douglas, Kansas, a 1934 graduate of Augusta High School in Augusta, KS. In 1938 she met the love of her life, the late Harlan L. Buss and spent 72 years of her life in marital bliss while raising two sons. She enjoyed being a homemaker and assisted her husband and sons running the family farm outside of Leon, KS. In 1964 the family moved to Claymont, DE where she resided until her death. She was active in the Ruth Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star in Leon, KS, rose thru the chairs and served as Worthy Matron of the chapter, served as District Aid to the Grand Chapter of Kansas and as Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls. She and Harlan also were active in the White Shrine in El Dorado, KS and the Camel Herders at Nur Temple Shrine in Wilmington, DE. Upon retiring, she and Harlan enjoyed gardening and RV traveling visiting 49 U.S. states. Being extremely proud of her family, most trips involved visiting her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.Mae is survived by two sons: J. Ronald Buss and wife Karen of the Villages, FL; William R. Buss of Claymont, DE. Six grandchildren: Susan Buss Navarette & husband Paul; Lisa Buss Foos; Janet Buss Reed & husband Ross; Darren Buss & wife Kathy; Eric Buss & wife Kellie; and Jennifer Baynes; seventeen great grand children, and four great-great grandchildren. Additional family members: Marilyn Buss Porter of Wichita, KS and Rosemary Buss of Newark, DE.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Phillips Shrimshaw.Friends may call at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, on Sunday, July 10 from 6-8 pm or Monday, July 11 from 10:30-11:00 am. A funeral service will be held at 11 am. Interment will follow the service at Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Highfield Masonic Home of Delaware, Inc. 4800 Lancaster Pike Wilmington, DE 19807.
