William Henry Stopple was the eldest child of Johan Julius Stopple and Bertha Umland. After his mother died in 1873 in Austin County, Texas, leaving his father with two sons under the age of five, Julius remarried a little over six months later to Margaret Lucinda Glenn. Lucinda raised him and his brother Alfred Gustave Stopple, along with the five children she had with Julius until she and two of the Stopple children were killed in the 1902 Goliad tornado.
William's wife, Carrie Elizabeth, died in 1913, leaving him with three children, Julia Margaret Stopple-Smith (Memorial ID 134342082), Francis Henry Stopple (Memorial ID 142521323), and Elizabeth Carrie Stopple (Memorial ID 134426818).
