Mrs. Nellie Lokkebo Severson, long-time resident of the county and a former nurse, died Thursday,July 3 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. She was 86.
The Rev. Alden Hovda conducted funeral services for Mrs. Severson Monday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church. Burial was in Phelps Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Harlan Hovey, Maynard Hovey, Vernon Spilde, Arnold Hanson, Ole Flatland and Lloyd Hanson. Mrs. Otto Ruen was organist and accompanied soloist Melvin Martinson and the congregation as they sang hymns. Funeral arrancgements were made by Olson-Fjelstul Funeral Home.
Mrs. Severson is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Garcia of Albert Lea, Minn. and Mrs. Roy Belz of Decorah; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Hannah Hovey of Decorah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1928, her parents and five sons, Chester, Arthur, Hartvig, George and Norman Severson.
As Nellie Lokkebo Hanson, she was born December 5, 1888 in Sanfjord Norway, the daughter of Hans and Katrine Lokkebo Hanson. She came to America in 1893 and settled in Winneshiek County. She was married November 22,1907 in Austin, Minn.
Mrs. Severson was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church, the ALCW and the Women's Relief Corp.
