NEW BEDFORD — Mark D. Bettencourt, age 52, of New Bedford passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 12, 2014. He was the husband of Kimberli (Lopes) Bettencourt, with whom he shared 18 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Mona (Morris) Bettencourt and Donald Bettencourt of New Bedford, he was a life-long resident of the city.

Mark graduated from Bristol Agricultural High School in 1980. He was the Owner and Operator of Cape Cod Fence Co. on Church Street in New Bedford, being born into the business and working there his entire life.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family trips to Maine, as well as playing the guitar and hockey. He loved watching his son play hockey and his daughter play soccer, but most of all he enjoyed spending time at home with his family.

In addition to his wife and father survivors include: his son, Myles Bettencourt; his daughter, Morgan Bettencourt; father and mother-in-law, Theodore and Joyce Lopes of Acushnet; brother and sister-in-law, Matthew and Susan Lopes also of Acushnet and their children, Madison and Spencer Lopes. He is also survived by two aunts and several cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service Monday, August 18, 2014 at 10 AM in the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Visiting hours, Sunday 2-5 PM.
