Anita Ferguson Collins
Nov. 7, 1945 - Aug 6, 2014

Mrs. Anita Ferguson Collins 68, of Greenville, SC, entered Heaven on Wednesday, August 6, 2014.
Anita was born on Nov. 7, 1945 in Abbeville, SC. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Dale and Blanche Ferguson.
Anita is survived by a brother, Dale Ferguson, as well as her husband of 48 years, Bob Collins, a son, Steve Collins, his wife Michelle, and two beautiful granddaughters, Ann and Kate, who were the light of her life.

She touched so many lives as a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. Anita truly made the world a better place for all those she came in contact with. Sweet, caring, genuine, kind, beautiful, and gracious have all been words used to describe Anita, but the one word that has been used the most and encompasses all that she was is "wonderful." She truly was a wonderful person. She never met a stranger and had a way of connecting with people in a way few can. She touched the lives of all who came in contact with her.

Anita graduated from Abbeville HS in 1964. She attended the University of South Carolina from 1964-66. She graduated from Armstrong State University in 1969 with a B.S. in Business. She earned additional Masters Degrees from USC in Business Education and Student Personnel with additional graduate credits at UGA and Clemson. Anita taught at Midlands Tech in Columbia, SC for 5 years, Oakland Community College in Farmington, MI for 2 years, Windsor Forest HS in Savannah, GA for 1 year, and Armstrong State in Savannah for 2 years. She taught at JL Mann HS in Greenville, SC from 1985-2005. At Mann, she taught business classes and served as a guidance counselor.

Anita was an avid sports fan, with football being her favorite. She loved South Carolina football, where her husband played and Harvard football, where her son played. She enjoyed Steve's 4 years at Harvard more than he did. She embraced the academic atmosphere as much as the athletic, and the friendships made during that time were some of the strongest and most enduring of her life. She never missed one of Steve's games at Harvard and became a fixture on the campus and is beloved by all still today. She has been a season ticket holder for USC football since 1985. Anita and Bob loved staying at the Inn at USC for games, and it became a 2nd home to them, and the staff an extension of their family.

Services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 1:00pm at Woodlawn United Methodist Church at 2220 Walton Way, Augusta, GA, which is the church home of her son's family and has become a place of great spiritual growth and prayer for Anita over the past several years.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation at 383 Main Ave, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851 or at www.themmrf.org.
