Erma Frances (Willis) Sims, 82, of Grottoes passed away on Thursday, August 14th 2014, at her home.

She was born in Burnwell, West Virginia, on December 1, 1931, daughter of the late Lyle and Sinda Bell Willis.

Erma married John L. (Jack) Sims on September 1, 1951. She and Jack moved to Fishersville, VA in 1951 and lived on the “Post” where they created many memories raising their children.

Erma was active in golfing, pitching horseshoes, and throwing darts. She was a member of the Moose and the Eagles. She enjoyed golfing at Swannanoa Golf Club, where she won many tournaments. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; daughter, Mellissa Ann Sims; sister, Ernestine Stevens, and son in law John Johnston. Left behind to celebrate her life are sons, John Sims and wife Christine of Sarasota, FL, David Sims of Stuarts Draft, VA, and Kenny Sims and his friend Debbie of Dooms, VA; a daughter, Dale Johnston of New Port Richie, FL; She also leaves behind grandchildren Jonathan, Mark, Erica, Danielle, and Danae. Her great grandchildren are Jonathan, Dylan, Sophia, and Linden. Erma is also survived by her brother John L. Willis and wife Sue of Greenville, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Erma will be missed by her companion of 17 years, Eugene Bunch of Grottoes, VA. They loved traveling together, especially to Emerald Isle and a trip to Hawaii. They enjoyed boating and riding Eugene’s Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Mary Chittum, Erma's very special friend has been by her side during her illness. Also caring for Erma was daughter, Dale and Sharon Printz and Becky Radakovich. The family greatly appreciates the loving care that was given to her.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, August 18th 2014 at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor Janet Elsea officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 17th 2014 at McDow Funeral Home, 1701 West Main Street, Waynesboro.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Erma’s memory, to the Waynesboro YMCA, 648 South Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980 or RMH Hospice, 2010 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
