Wilson studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1870. In Janesville he was an editor of the Janesville Times and the Janesville Recorder. He was a school commissioner for many years, clerk of the board of education, and was elected to the Wisconsin state assembly in 1892. He was also elected mayor, but died while still in office.
