Melinda Ann Thornton, 44, Russellville, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at her residence. Melinda was employed by Three Springs in Jackson County and Jessup, Georgia, and with the Department of Human Resources for the State of Georgia. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She dedicated her life to helping troubled children and made such an impact on many lives. She was a huge Alabama fan and loved going to the games. The visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spry Memorial Chapel. Speaking at the service will be Brother Gerald Ricketts and April Merkley-Yarbrough. Burial will be at Knights of Pythias Cemetery. She is survived by her son, Andrew Thornton; mother, Callie Thornton; brothers, John Thornton (special friend, Teresa Lesley), James Thornton (wife, Paula), and David Thornton (wife, Sheila); two nieces; five nephews; three great-nephews; four great-nieces; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Lealon C. Thornton, brother, George H. Thornton, and sister, Sandra McClain. The pallbearers will be Donald Clement, Doug Clement, Robert Thornton, David Smith, Hugh Don Garrett, and Tim Vickery.
