Michael Woodson Rodnicki, 96, of Apollo, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, in Lifecare Hospital, Monroeville. Born May 19, 1918, in Leetsdale, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Rosalia (Oleskiv) Rodnicki. Michael lived in the Apollo area most of his life. He served our country with the Air Force during World War II and Korea, retiring after 21 years. He was a member of the 8th Bomber Squad and Strategic Air Command during his many years of service. Michael worked as a heavy equipment operator for 19 years for the Teamsters, retiring in 1984, and was employed in the Brownstown Coal Mines and also in open-pit mineral mines in Montana. Michael was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Apollo and the NRA. He loved working on his property in Kiski Township with his tractors and enjoyed tending to his many fruit trees. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen, Charles, Nicholas and Anthony Rodnicki. He is survived by his brother, Frank (Mayvon) Rodnicki, of Apollo; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until the hour of blessing service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo, with Father John Euker officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Armstrong County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
