Mrs. Walter R. Riley, 79, died Tuesday at Sioux City Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs Riley was born on September 10, 1888 in New York, NY, She has been a resident of Sioux City for 43 years. The Former Alma Dinnen, she was married to Mr. Riley in Norfolk, Nebraska in 1907. Mr. Riley died in Sioux City on December 10, 1928.
Mrs. Riley was a matron of the Woodbury County Home from 1931 to 1938 and matron at Leif Ericson Park for 15 years until she retired nine years ago. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Epiphany and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph of Wakeman, Ohio and Walter E. of Sioux City; four daughters, Mrs. Mable Holbrook, Mrs. Mildred Yanney and Mrs. Jean Mustacchio, all of Sioux City, and Mrs. Adeline Nuca of Long Beach, California; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Larkin Funeral Home

1) Alma was born in Germany, she came to the US via New York in 1894 or 1896. She is the oldest child of Dorothea Dinnsen nee Blunk, therefore couldn’t have been born in New York, as two of her younger siblings are born in Germany. All three of them came to the USA with their Mother Dorothea Dinnsen (Nee Blunk).
2) She married Walter R Riley in Omaha Nebraska in 1908, as stated on her marriage license.
3) Her maiden name was Dinnsen not Dinnen.
4) Her daughter Adeline married Chris Muca not “Nuca”.
5) Burial: Mrs. Riley is buried at Calvary Cemetery in the Mount of Olives section, lot 136. Grave 2.
