Margaret Ver Steeg, daughter of Mathew and Elizabeth Van Ginkel Van Gorp, was born on a farm near Pella, on March 1,1877, and passed away at her home in Knoxville, November 5, 1957 at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 4 days.

On June 26, 1896 she was united in marriage to Gerrit Ver Steeg who preceded her in death on November 4, 1953. To this union five children were born: Mrs. Gertrude Adams, Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, Nick, Matt, and Bill, all of Knoxville. A grandson, Marvin Flanders, was also reared in her home.

In addition to her five children, she is survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, five sisters: Mrs. Jane Ver Steeg, Mrs. Cora Gosselink, Mrs. Nellie Fudge, all of New Sharon; Mrs. Mary Perry of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Bess Hess of Hammond, Indiana, three brothers, Harry Van Gorp of Oskaloosa, and Frank Van Gorp of Hammond, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Ann Hoksbergen, Mrs. Carrie Van Heukolem and Mrs. Clara Tuinstra; also by one grandson, Melvin DeRuther.

She united with the Methodist Church in Pella in 1905 and transferred her membership to First Methodist church, Knoxville, May 24, 1953.

Funeral services were held from the First Methodist church, Knoxville, Friday, November 8, at 3:00 pm, conducted by Rev. M. D. Summerbeil. Interment in Graceland Cemetery.
