Mary Jane Jones Sproul was the daughter of Isaac Henry Jones and Caroline Whittemore. She was born in Weston, Massachusetts on 19 August 1840. On 13 Oct 1864, she married James Sproul in Weston, Massachusetts. They had 4 children - son James Henry Sproul, who was born and died in 1866, and 3 daughters, Caroline (Carrie), Margaret (Maggie) and Mary.
Mary Jane Jones was the great-granddaughter of Isaac Jones, proprietor of The Golden Ball Tavern. It was built in Weston 1768 and figured into the Revolutionary War activities in the area. Six generations of Isaac's descendants, including Mary Jane, were born and lived in the Golden Ball. The tavern is now a museum and on the National Register of Historic Places.
