Born and raised on the east side of Des Moines, he also lived in Maryland, Chicago, Arizona, and California.
Known for playing guitar and singing country music and being a big NASCAR fan, he also raced stock cars, served in the Army, worked 15 years at Wison Foods, ten years at National Medical Care, and owned Phipps Real Estate.
Jerry loved his children, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his children, Michael Phipps, Cindy Massey, Tony Phipps, Angela Phipps, Todd Phipps, Heidie White, and Heather Phipps; his siblings, Jack Phipps, Candy Phipps, and Scott Phipps; along with 20 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, L. Earl Phipps and Phyllis S. Cohee; and children, Sandy Phipps and Huston G. Curran.
