Gary Glenn Norton died August 13, 2014 at UTSW Hospital in Dallas following a long, complicated illness. He was 67.

Gary was born October 14, 1946 to his parents, Glenn and June Norton in Boulder, CO. From an early age, Gary was a people person and a motivated business man. Starting at age 5, he worked at his grandfathers grocery store, Clairs Market, on Pearl Street in Boulder. His job was to collect recycled milk and soda bottles in a grocery cart much taller than he, then to navigate the giant and heavy cart to the back of the store. He earned a quarter a day. He was a competitive athlete in swimming, diving, baseball and downhill race skier. He also served as a ski instructor and on the ski patrol. After high school, he attended Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, MO. To his mothers dismay, he was determined to play football; he was nearly 100 pounds smaller than all the other boys. During one game, Glenn was asked, Which boy is yours? Glenn pointed and replied, That little one over there covered in blood and getting his butt kicked all over the field.

After graduating from Kemper, Gary joined his parents in Irving, TX where he met Vicky. Gary enlisted in the Air Force July, 1967. While in training, he decided he couldnt live another day without his love, and didn't for the next 48 years. Gary and Vicky married on November 24, 1967 and were stationed in Grand Forks, ND. They served in Okinawa and Guam during the Vietnam conflict, and in California and Maine.

He became an Air Force Recruiter in 1977 and was transferred to Ft. Worth, TX. Gary never knew a stranger and he had a gift for interacting with all people. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked for Gene Messer Ford in Lubbock. He was a natural salesman. Gary took a lifetime to grow up and never really quite got there. With a great sense of humor and confidence, he loved to joke, tease and laugh. He was an awesome friend and partner in crime. He would tell us all, The only thing that truly matters in life is your family, your faith and your happiness.

Gary is survived by his Wife, Vicky of Lewisville, TX; his Son, Michael Norton of Lewisville, TX; his Son, Greg Norton and Daughter-in-Law, Jenna of Flower Mound, TX; and his Daughter, Lori Norton of Whitefish, Montana; his two grandsons, Travis and Trent Norton; his Mother-in-Law Mary Hudgins; Brother- in- Law, Larry Singleton and two nephews.

Gary's funeral service will take place at the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, Chapel, at 12:00PM, Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Gary will be buried at the DFW National Cemetery with full military honors following the service at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather for a reception, following the burial, at Temple Baptist Church, 2501 Northshore Blvd (972) 874-8700 in Flower Mound. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Garys life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, ALS
