Lela Karen Bryce, of Pima, 77, passed quickly from this life into the next on Aug. 13, 2014.

Karen was born Feb. 2, 1937 — Groundhog’s Day — in Casper, Wyo., to Harold Evan and Artella Ricks Poulsen. Her family moved to Safford in 1951, where she attended Safford schools.

There she met her first husband, Wayne Boggs. In 1954, her infant daughter, Vickie Danielle, passed moments after birth. The following year, Karen was blessed with another daughter, Wendy Karen. On Christmas day that year, she lost Wayne to a tragic car accident. In 1957, she married her lifelong love and companion, Billy J. Bryce, from Pima.

They were blessed with a third daughter, Joy, in 1960. Together they lived in Safford, Morenci and Globe before returning to Pima in 1971, where she lived until her passing.

Karen enjoyed life. She loved traveling, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, seeing new sights and having new adventures. Over the years, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator, Avon representative, dental assistant, teacher’s aide and seamstress. She especially enjoyed the many friends she made through her Avon sales and cherished her lifelong friends from high school. She also enjoyed serving in various capacities in the LDS church, including positions in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary.

Karen was preceded in death by Bill, Vickie, her parents and brother, Jon Poulsen.

She is survived by daughter, Wendy (Scott Bryce) and their children, Derrick (Kandace McEuen), David (Allison Mullenaux), Brandon (Jana Maynard), Jason (Jennifer Griffin), Bonnie (Von Richardson) and Jessica (Kent Perez), and their 25 grandchildren; her daughter, Joy (Wayne Flake), their children, Janet (Aaron Huntsman), Preston (Krystal Johnson), Leisyl (Elijah Stewart), Jordan (Kaitlyn Whetten), Tanner, their seven grandchildren; sisters, Roslyn Reeder, of California, and Cheri Lines, of Pima; and brother, Gary Poulsen of Queen Creek.

Funeral services for Karen will be conducted Wednesday morning, Aug. 20, 2014, at 10 a.m., at the Pima LDS Chapel by Bishop Mike Brown, of the Pima Fourth Ward. Concluding services will follow in the Pima Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the Pima LDS Chapel Junior Sunday School Room.
