Wesley Thomas Ward, 89, husband of the late Myrtle Melson Ward and a resident of Wardtown, VA, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Wardtown, he was the son of the late Ernest D. Ward and the late Mildred Mears Ward. He served in the Merchant Marines, was a United States Army veteran, retired from Exmore Foods, past Fire Chief of Community Fire Company, past Governor of Exmore Moose Lodge #683 and a member of Belle Haven United Methodist Church.

He is survived by four children, Dixie W. Greer and her husband, Douglas, of Exmore, VA, Diane W. Justice and her husband, Barron, of Wardtown, Deborah L. Ward of Exmore, Tommy Ward and his wife, Angie, of Exmore; a son-in-law, David W. Mears of Exmore; a brother, Charles G. Ward of Exmore; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Dunton Ward and two sisters-in-law, Elmira Ward and Marion Ward.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Belle Haven United Methodist Church with Reverends Judith Worthington, Rob Kelly, Jonathan Carpenter and Mike Muender officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Haven Cemetery. Family will join friends at Doughty Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite #3, Onancock, VA 23417.
