Betty J. (Elkins) Horsley passed away October 8, 2011, at the Billings Clinic Hospital in Billings, Montana after complications of open heart surgery.

She was born February 7, 1934, to parents Benjamin and Amy Sophia in Terre Haute, Indiana. Betty married Virgil P. Horsley June 30, 1951. They had one daughter, Brenda. They moved west to Montana in 1955 and then to Sheridan, Wyoming.

Betty worked for the Kresge's Stores in Indiana. Upon moving to Wyoming she first worked at the kitchen of the Elk's Club in Sheridan. She worked for many years at the Woolworth's store, first in the restaurant and later in the fabric and crafts department.

With the closing of Woolworth's, she worked at WalMart for 8 years until her retirement in 2000. She and her husband managed the Guest House Motel when it was built in the later 1960's and the JE Motel in the later 1970's.

Betty enjoyed reading, crafting, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She always had an afghan for everyone. She was a gentle-hearted lady with a little bit of a spunky spirit who loved her family greatly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law Stephen Meece in January, 2011, brothers Paul, Ford, Woodrow, Owen, Russell, Raymond, Benjamin, Frank, and Arnold; sisters Gussie, Ruby, Marcella, Roberta, and Julia.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda G. (Horsley) Meece, granddaughters, Angela (Meece) VanHouten, (Kurtis),of Casper, Wyoming; Heather Meece of San Luis Obispo, California; and Kimberly Meece of Sheridan; Great-grandchildren Andrew VanHouten and Sydney VanHouten, of Casper; Sisters Ruth Lee of Euless, Texas, Lois Langford of Indianapolis, Indiana, Doris Dennis and Edith, also of Indiana.

She lost the love of her life, husband Virgil, to cancer, June 9, 2011. They were married just a few short weeks of 60 years. She really did pass away from a broken heart.

A Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held next June around the time of their anniversary.
