Married to the former Nancy "Nana" Barnes, George and Nana had one child, a daughter, Eleanor Louise.

George was a Spanish-American War veteran. He enlisted on 9 May (and mustered in on 11 May), 1898 with Company D, 9th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He mustered out on 29 Oct 1898 at Wilkes-Barre, PA (about 5½ months of service).

He served as a Regimental mail carrier at "Chiquamagua" [sic: Chickamauga, GA?] and was not outside the Continental US during his service, according to his widow's application under the Pennsylvania Veteran's Compensation Act.

A merchant in civil life, George continued in the National Guard, reputedly rising to the rank of Captain.

According to his death certificate, George died of a kidney disorder (chronic interstitial nephritis) for which he was under treatment of nearly a year.
