Mr. Thompson’s family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. (EDT) today, Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main St., Newark, Ohio.
Mr. Thompson died Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at the Autumn Health Care in Newark.
He was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Hebron, Ohio, to the late Wesley Raymond and Vera Kathryn (Hoskinson) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson retired from Frenier Sheet Metal with 43 years of service. He was employed as a courier for Park National Bank for close to 10 years. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre aboard the flag ship USS Estes. He participated in the battles at Iwo Jima and Okinawa and was part of the Occupation Force in Japan. He had a very strong work ethic and was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed farming and was a loving grandfather.
He is survived by five children, Michael (Linda) Thompson of Newark, Ohio, Deborah (Gary) Bohman, of Douglasville, Ga., Lori (Jim) Tabler, of Newark, Ohio, Mark (Jan) Thompson of Cookeville and Holly (Chip) Santos of Newark, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Helen T. (Lucas) Thompson (who passed away on Nov. 16, 2010), and great-granddaughter, Ava Graves.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
