Bob Bohannon Dies of Heart Ailment After Brief Illness
Rites Set Friday For Long-Time TP&L Employee Bob Bohannon, 84, 220 Cherry Street, known to his many friends as "Uncle Bob," died at the Medical and
Surgical hospital at 5:10 o'clock 1956 of a heart ailment. Bohannon had been taken to the hospital Tuesday.
Funeral services have been announced for 3 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Bonham with the Rev. James Hatley, pastor, officiating. The Rev. E. J. Kearney, pastor, of the Seventh and Main Baptist church, and Rev, Clifford Longino, pastor of the Savoy Baptist church, will assist. Interment will be in the Inglish Cemetery with Earnheart Funeral home of Whitewright directing.
Born April 16, 1872, at Sail Creek, Tenn., Bohannon came to Bonham when he was 17 years old and had made his home here since that time. He had been an employee of electric light and power companies for more than 60 years when he was retired two years ago. Bohannon was first employed by the Bonham Power and Light Co.,the first power company to supply Bonham with electric power. When the Texas Power and Light Co. purchased the Bonham company, Bohannon continued as an employee until his retirement. He was honored by the TP&L for his half century of work with the company and for a long safety record with the company. He was never involved in a lost-time accident. In his early employment with the power companies Bohannon learned to do everything-set poles, string wires, install lights and equipment, operate generators and did a bit of office work. During the latter years of employment with the Texas Power & Light Co., he was in charge of the sub-station on Cherry Street, just south of his home. With the installation of automatic equipment, "Uncle Bob" duties had grown lighter through the years but he continued to put in a full eight hours a day on the job. He was fi rst married to the late Miss Ella Thomas, who preceded him in death some 30 years ago. A few years after her death, he married Mrs. Mary Box, who died in August 1955. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist church of Bonham and attended services regularly.
Survivors are five brothers, Jim Bohannon and Tom Bohannon of Itada, ILL.; Joe Bohannon of Fort Worth; Green Bohannon of California; Barnett Bohannon of Colorado Springs, Col.; two daughters, Mrs. Flora Hamilton of Waco, Mrs. Florance Hamilton of Austin; two sons, Frank Bohannon of Dallas, Fred Bohannon of Big Spring and seven stepchildren, Bill Box and Coy Box of Bonham, Mrs. Pansy Watson, of Bonham, Mrs. Thelma Gist of Houston, Mrs. Vera Chesser of Whitewright, Mrs. Robert Brinton of Dallas, and Mrs. Claude Strickland of Savoy and a large number of grandchildren.
