David Ray Goins, 68, of 197 Bob Jessup Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his home. He was born in Stokes County, NC on December 1, 1945 to Walter James Goins and Carrie Mitchell Goins. Mr. Goins was a member of Mt. Herman United Methodist Church. He was a long-time farmer. He was employed by Westfield Elementary School for 26 years. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jessup Goins; four daughters, Debbie Goins, Deanna Goins, and Donna Goins, all of Mount Airy, and Dana Goins (Dan) Clukey, of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Emma Goins and Grady Clukey; one sister, Cathy G. Moore, of King; three brothers, Riley Goins and Mike (Deborah) Goins of Mount Airy, and Leonard Goins, of Pilot Mountain. He was preceded by his parents, Walter James Goins and Carrie Mitchell Goins, and a brother, Vernon Goins. The family will receive friends at Howell-Nelson Funeral Service in Pilot Mountain on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Howell-Nelson Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Rickey Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Herman United Methodist Church Cemetery.
