Pauline "Polly" Hester Hammond, 93, of Greenville, went home to meet her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 12, 2013.
Born in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Bessie Thompson.
Mrs. Hammond retired from the Greenville County Court House and was an active member of Monaghan United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir for many years and a member of United Methodist Women.
Polly loved working in the yard and with flowers. She was a member of the Westcliffe Garden Club.
Faith and family were her priorities as was evident in how she lived, loved, and served.
She is survived by daughter, Janet Burns and husband, Gerald of Anderson; stepdaughter, Jackie Burnett of Simpsonville; grandchildren, Jimmy and Renee Skelton, David and Robin Leathers, Steve and Debbie Jones, John and Teresa Martin; eight great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Jordan and Hazel King.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wesley M. Hester; her second husband, Jewell M. Hammond; son, Tony Martin Hester; stepdaughter, Marlene and Emmett Hutto; son-in-law, Thurston Burnett; and three brothers, James, Raymond and Truman Thompson.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 15, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monaghan United Methodist Church, 3 McBeth Street, Greenville, SC 29611 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
The family would like to thank the staff and friends, especially Faye, of Morningside Assisted Living and Hospice of the Upstate for the love and care they gave Polly.
The family will be at their respective homes.
