Sally Wengert, 76, of Fremont, died Sunday at the Valhaven Center in Valley.
She was born February 5, 1938, in Grand Island, to Dr. Dorwin Burdette and Laura Marie Wengert. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1956 and received her bachelor's degree in 1960 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She also earned a master's degree in Education from Kearney State College in 1971.
She was a lifelong educator and taught English at the Junior High, High School, and College level in Lincoln, Kearney, Fremont and Cedar Bluffs. She also coached competitive speech and drama at Cedar Bluffs.
She was an active member of the community including the Pi Beta Phi Sorority at the University of Lincoln and the PEO Chapter in Fremont and the board of the Nebraska State Education Association. She was a strong advocate of local arts and directed performances for the Cozmit Club in Lincoln and the community theater in Kearney.
She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Andy and Sherry Hove of Solon, Ohio and Scott and Cheryl Hove of Omaha, Nebraska. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Drew, Ryan, Will, Morgan, and Jacob.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother Dr. James Wengert.
Funeral Services will be Saturday August 16th at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Episcopal Church. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established to the Fremont Public Schools Foundation.
Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery.
