Laura Patton Luster, the daughter of the late Will Patton and Camella Cowens Patton was born August 30, 1917, in Holmes County, Lexington, Mississippi, in the Hickory Spring Community.
Laura attended Hickory Springs School in Lexington and at an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with the West Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington.
In 1935, she married William Austin Luster, who preceded her in death. To this union one daughter was born, Laverne. In 1940, Laura along with her husband and daughter moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she was employed with Michael Reese Hospital in the Housekeeping Department for a number of years. Later, she was employed with Greyhound Bus Lines, from where she retired after twenty-five years of service.
In the 1960s, she united with South Park Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend E. R. Williams, Jr.
Mrs. Luster departed this life on Thursday morning, January 18, 1996, at Little Company of Mary Hospital.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, LaVerne Luster; one sister, Willie B. Watson of Lexington, MS; two brothers, Isadore Patton, Sr., Chicago, IL and M. J. Patton of Lexington, MS; four sisters-in-law, Ernestine Patton, Chicago, Alberta Patton, Lexington, MS, Robbie Robinson, San Francisco, CA and Mary Allen of Chicago, IL; one aunt, Evangelist Carrie Young of Bengor, Michigan; also a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Active Pallbearers were Darien L. Polk, Norris L. Patton, Berlin Watson, Fred Watson, Tanzie Earl Patton and Vernon Patton.
Honorary Pallbearers were Isadore Patton, Obie Johnson, M. J. Patton, Obie Johnson, Jr. and Garfield Larry.
Professional Services were entrusted to Leak and Sons Funeral Chapel, Chicago.
