Harold Whiting Slauson was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Slauson, founder and publisher of the first daily newspaper in Orange County, New York.

A native of Middletown, New York, Harold was a graduate of Cornell University School of Engineering, class of 1904. He was a member of the Engineers Club and the Automotive Society of New York, the Cornell Club of Skaneateles and the Power Squadron of which he was Commodore.

Harold was held in high regard by engineers of Syracuse. He was a marine engineering consultant and had served with the United States Dollar and Cunard lines. He was the author of seven books written between 1915 and 1930 for the driving public. He was a founding member of the SAE in 1905 and 1921-22 chairman of its metropolitan section which then had more than 1,000 members. In 1923 he was chairman of its national section committee. After moving to Skaneateles he affiliated with the Tech Club and the Syracuse Society of Automotive Engineers. In 1952, he was given a certificate honoring his 41 years of service to the SAE.

Harold was married on August 31, 1910 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Miss Helen Ford in a lavish home wedding hosted by her parents, Dr. James Henry and Lois (McLain) Ford. They had three daughters: Lois Olivia (1911), Antoinette Whiting (1915) and Ruth Wilcox (1926) Slauson; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and four gr-great-grandchildren.

The Slausons moved to Scaneateles, New York in 1948 from Scarsdale and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

Harold was killed in a tragic automobile accident on July 22, 1953 near Sacket's Harbor, New York.

Harold's wife, Helen, was a beloved granddaughter of Dr. James and America (Holton) Ford of Wabash, Indiana.
