Gilbert Jahn

A memorial service will be Dec. 6 and the burial service will be Dec. 7 for former Eugene resident Gilbert W. Jahn of Vancouver, Wash. Jahn died Nov. 30 of complications of pneumonia. He was 85.

He was born June 21, 1919, in Sundown Township, Minn., to Walter and Frieda Mueller Jahn. He married Marie Thompson in 1938 in Springfield, Minn. She died April 13, 1998.

Jahn served in the Army during World War II. He lived in Eugene until 1968, then moved to Vancouver. He was a long haul truck driver for Burch's Moving & Storage in Eugene and later for two companies in Vancouver. He enjoyed refurbishing leather horse collars and harnesses, golf, walking and feeding squirrels. He belonged to the American Legion, Smith-Reynolds Post 14 and Memorial Lutheran Church, both in Vancouver, Wash.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Zimmerman of Springfield and Sandra Burgstahler of Brush Prairie, Wash.; a son, Gerald of Springfield; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Monday's memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. in Memorial Lutheran Church in Vancouver.

Tuesday's burial with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. in Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene. Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home in Vancouver, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
