Eileen Mary Buckley Horan, 87, of Middletown, RI, formerly of Portsmouth, RI, passed away gracefully at home surrounded by her loving family, August 10, 2014.

She was the wife of the late Roy Horan Jr.

Born October 23, 1926 in Pawtucket, RI to the late Andrew Wright Buckley and Florence Audette Buckley.

She attended Rogers High School and graduated in the class of 1944.

She worked in the Torpedo Station on Goad Island in Accounting at the Navy Base Bond Office before she married Roy Horan Jr. of Winter Park, FL. He predeceased her in 1971 and being the only love for her, she devoted herself to raising their eight children.

She was the President of the former Catholic Women's Club of St. Anthony's Church, Chairman of the Portsmouth Action Committee of New Visions, Public Relations Director for the Portsmouth Churches Seminar, Vice-President of the Parish Advisory Board for St. Anthony's Church, Moderator for the Adult Debate Symposium.

Organizer and member of the following: Portsmouth Ecumenical Council of Churches, Citizens Advisory Committee, Portsmouth School Committee(member of the Needs Assessment Committee), helped develop the Scope Survey to improve the Portsmouth Education System.

She sacrificed for her family, not because she had to, but because she wanted to and for her it was never a sacrifice.

She was the happiest when all her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren surrounded her.

There was no limit to her love as she embraced everyone with kindness and compassion. She offered sage advice, but only when asked.

She loved the arts and was a self-taught oil painter, loved music and was an avid reader.

Always positive and never judgmental, she was a treasure to her family and friends.

Her faith knew no boundaries as she raised her family with an abundance of love, so that they too would carry on her fundamental love and respect for each other and of humanity.

Eileen will remain in our hearts, as we remember her bright smile and twinkling eyes, she will never truly be gone.

She is survived by her eight children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren.
