George, the son of Dennis and Jane Elizabeth (Beckwith) Mahoney, was married to Annie Elizabeth Spencer on Dec. 1, 1888. They were childless. George was killed when struck by lightning. In an article from the New London Day it says George was picking up stones in a lot when the storm came up. He and a friend took refuge under the ox cart but that was not satisfactory so they went under a large maple tree. Mahoney sat with his back against the tree and his friend Robert Doane nearby. A blinding flash of lightning struck the tree, killing Mahoney instantly and completely prostrating Doane.Son of Dennis & Jane B Mahoney
